年轻有为的Harrison French（Matthew Davis饰）有个漂亮的妻子，婚姻美满，事业和生活都蒸蒸日上，但是一个大雨滂沱的夜晚，哈里森驾车撞死了一名神秘男子。被害者被怀疑是银行劫匪，同时也可能是妻子的弟弟。在内心折磨之下，他将此事告诉了家庭的一个好友，律师William Ashbury（Harrison French饰），随之噩梦接踵而至，他因此被卷入了一位富豪的世界。William并非简单人物，他通过掌握几位权势人物的肮脏秘密而控制了这个团体，包括警察局长，Harrison的岳父---国会议员Henderson（Peter Coyote饰），Harrison的好友……Harrison不甘屈服，联合新来的探员Scofield（Aidan Quinn饰）将恐怖的疑云趋散。。Comedy about the proverbial genie who comes out of a bottle (a table lamp in this instance) to serve his new master.
